de Magistra - About Your Teacher!
Salvete discipuli! Hello scholars! My name is Ms. Buck, but in Latin, we call our teachers Magistra or Magister, so you should call me Magistra Buck!
I grew up in Connecticut in a small waterfront town. After graduating high school I went to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I graduated with a degree in Classics (I studied the Latin language as well as Greek and Roman history). While in college I studied abroad in Greece and had the opportunity to travel to different parts of Europe. I then moved to Boston, Massachusetts to get my Masters Degree in Education from Boston College. After teaching high school students in Boston, I was excited to have the chance to pack up and move all the way across the country (about 2,500 miles!) to teach a wonderful bunch of 7th and 8th graders about the interesting details and wonderful exploration of my favorite language: Latin!
Besides being your teacher, I have many other interests! I love exploring. I can't wait to see all that Phoenix has to offer! I am always interested to hear about your favorite places and fun things to do! You can often find me watching a good movie, trying a new restaurant, and spending time with friends. I now live in Laveen with my cat, Oliver, and my dog, Stella! On the weekends, I work at the Cheesecake Factory. Come see me and I'll be sure to get you a great table! As a teacher I am still always learning, my other academic interests are British and Medieval History, English, and mythology.
In the classroom, I hope that you will be just as eager as I am to continue to explore the (at times) difficult language of the Romans. I hope that by the year's end, I will have sparked in you a desire for language learning, constant exploration, and independent education. You will find that as long as you come prepared to class, complete all of your assignments, and are ready to learn, we will have a fantastic year and you will be met with many successes! I hope that when it comes to be time for you to leave me and continue on to high school, you will take with you the many things that you have learned and bring them with you as you continue your studies.
I look forward to getting to know each of you this year (or seeing you again!) and I am excited for a thrilling year in our beautiful school!
valete et bona fortuna,
Magistra Buck
